Greenacres – Petanque

Greenacres Residents Delighted With New Petanque Court

Whilst donating rose bushes to a number of the island’s care homes earlier in the year, we noted that Greenacres lacked an outdoor activity where residents could keep active and enjoy the outdoors! The answer? We set about planning to install a Pétanque Court for all residents and visitors to enjoy. Not only was Pétanque devised as a game of skill, accessible to those even with physical disabilities, it is also one of the few sports in which individuals from different demographics (men, women and children of all ages) can compete on equal terms. There is no need for physical strength and the emphasis falls on skill and accuracy. As well as the broad remit of game itself mirroring the beliefs of the charity, it would also be hugely beneficial to those residing at the home.

Our idea was met with great enthusiasm so the planning commenced. Paulo’s Gardening services generously offered to provide their labour free of charge and the aim was to have the court installed before the year end!

Thanks to everyone’s hard work we are pleased to report that the project is now complete and Greenacres Home has a low maintenance recreation facility which can be enjoyed by the residents, together with their family and friends.

Another great success for A Smile for Georgie Foundation! ????
